Improving The Looks Of Roller Shutters Is Easier Than You May Have Thought

When you are interested in excellent burglary protection for your home or business, roller shutters definitely provide a reliable barrier to unwanted entry. Not only do the shutters keep "bad guys" out, they also offer excellent protection from the elements. Yet, some might resist over aesthetic concerns. Here are a few ways you can make roller shutters more decoratively pleasing.

Keep Them Clean And Shiny

Never overlook the basics.

Since shutters are most frequently rolled down at night and then rolled back up in the morning, home and business owners might not make cleaning them a priority. This can be a huge mistake because the once shiny metal can lose its luster due to dirt and grime collecting over time. Wind and rain can drive dirt and dust into the once pristine metal surface.

At least once every two weeks, take a hose, a sponge and some soap and water and clean off the surface of the shutter. You may find it prudent to use a special spray capable of restoring a "good as new shine" to the metal.

Spray Paint The Shutters

For some, the original metallic look of the shutters is preferred because it sends an unmistakable message that breaching the security of the premises is difficult. The brighter the shutters, the more difficult they are to miss. Spray painting the shutters with a silver or metallic coat could have a tremendous effect.

You might even opt for a blue coat since the colour has a formal tone to it. In a way, blue evokes images of the police which, in turn, gives would-be criminals pause for thought. And besides, the blue colour is good for those interested in a look that is both formal and visually easy on the eyes of those passing by.

Employ Creative Painting

Not everyone wants the shutters to have a visual warning effect. Aesthetics are the main concern. With the right approach to painting, the look of metal shutters could be greatly enhanced. For a homeowner, the shutters might be carefully painted to appear exactly like the exterior of a home. A large portion of the shutters can be coloured to match the brick walls of the house with the top of the shutters painted brown to match a wood roof.

Businesses have the option to turn their shutters into a form of marketing. A huge logo or slogan could be painted onto the shutters. This way, more potential customers are drawn from those who walk or drive by the establishment. Standard gray metal would not have such an effect.
